Summer Courses

The quartet is returning to Dartington International Summer School to do a weeks course in August with Paul Archibald. For us it's a great opportunity to clock up some rehearsal time, and to perform solo and ensemble works in daily masterclasses and informal concerts.

As a student I used to hop from one summer school to the next. I'd learn my orchestral excepts in Edinburgh with the Rehearsal Orchestra and than travel south to have lessons with Mike Laird at Dartington. When I went back to college for the new term I'd be raving to go and full of energy to tackle new music and improve my technique.

It also prepared me for life as a freelancer. All that travelling, new faces to meet, old ones to catch up with and sight reading difficult music all the time. It was very different to my experiences at college where we were given the luxury of learning a new orchestral work over a whole term.

Paul's classes attract musicians from all walks of life and appeal to young and old alike. If you would like to rekindle your love of the trumpet than a summer course could be just what the doctor ordered.
